Also known as “Market Based Solutions for Improved Livelihoods: Strengthening Rural Value Chains in Ethiopia,” this project, was implemented by the Mennonite Economic Development Associates and partner organizations beginning in 2010. Its goal was to increase incomes and improve livelihoods for 10,000 households by increasing participation in existing value chains such as rice and textiles. This Value Chain approach was new to Ethiopia.
PlanNET’s evaluation assessed the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the intervention, in particular of the impact on the economic situation of women, at the midway point of the five-year project. The evaluation’s purpose was to contribute to the improvement of project implementation, inform the design any future project, and to draw best practices that could be scaled up and used to inform policy dialogue in Ethiopia.
